Review: Orskey Dash Cam S900
Quick Review: One of the cheapest front & rear dash cams available. Works reasonably well considering the low price. The camera quality isn’t the best, especially at night.
I’d been thinking about getting a dash cam for quite some time, due to all the maniacs on the road. Then after backing into a car for the second time in 8 days, I thought I’d kill two birds with one stone. By getting a dash cam with a rear camera, which could double up as a reversing camera. After a bit of research, I purchased the Orskey dash cam S900 from Amazon.
How Does The Orskey S900 Work
The Orskey dash cam has a front and rear camera. The front camera has a small 3-inch display on the back which can be configured to display just the front camera, just the rear camera or display both the rear and front cameras at the same time.
The display can be configured to be on all the time, off or automatically turn off after a specified amount of time. I have the display turn after 1 minute, this allows me to use the rear camera as a reversing camera when I initially set off.
The front and rear cameras each record to a different folder on the memory card. The video files are named the same so that it is easy to match the front and rear videos.
To watch the footage that has been recorded the memory card has to be inserted into a computer.
The rear camera is powered using the HDMI cable that connects to the main front dash cam unit
If the default settings are left the dash cam will automatically overwrite older video files as required.
Leaving the default settings will be suitable for most situations.
Pros: Orskey Dash Cam S900
- It’s Cheap – The Orskey S900 is one of the cheapest dash cams I could find. it’s available on Amazon and eBay. When I purchased mine, it was a few pounds cheaper on Amazon.
- Front & Back Camera – Accidents don’t just happen in front of a car. It is common for cars to be rear-ended, so it makes sense to have a rear dash cam.
- Battery Included – The S900 dash cam has a built-in battery to record when the engine isn’t running. This allows the camera to record incidents that might occur when you’re parked up.
- Memory Card Included: Admittedly memory cards don’t cost much these days, but it’s good to have everything you need included to get the dash cam up and running. The one that comes with the Orskey dash cam is 32GB.
Note: The Orskey S900a, doesn’t include a memory card - Easy Installation: I was expecting the dash cam to be tricky to install, particularly the power cable and rear camera cable. Everything you need to install the dash cam is included and the power and rear camera cables are long, making it easier to route the cables.

- Recording Quality – The front camera is 1080p full HD. However, the footage from the camera is not as clear as watching a 1080p film. The rear camera is a lower VGA resolution
During the day the front camera records a decent quality image. The rear camera image during the day is ok. It’s during the night that image quality drops considerably for both cameras

- Rear Camera And Rain – I’ve placed the rear camera externally just above the number plate. If the camera gets rain on the lens, it is next to useless.
I did think about locating the camera internally looking out of the rear windscreen. The two problems with locating the rear camera internally are:
1) The rear wiper would need to be constantly on when it’s raining.
2) The camera would be looking through glass which means that the image quality would be reduced. - Not A Good Reversing Camera – One of the reasons I got a rear dash cam was in the hope that it would double up as a reversing camera. Unfortunately, the rear camera viewing angle isn’t wide enough. It works as a reversing camera if I’m going straight, but it doesn’t work well if I have to reverse turn into a parking spot.
Orskey Dash Cam Front and Rea - Records AVI files – The Orskey S900 records video footage to AVI files. AVI files are quite an old format and take up much more space on the memory card compared to more modern video file formats.

Conclusion: Orskey s900 Review
If you’re unlucky enough to be involved in a crash the dash cam will show what happened but, I wouldn’t rely on it for detailed information, such as capturing number plates, especially at night time.
I’m pretty happy with the Orskey S900. I think the rear camera is probably the biggest letdown. Overall, for the price, the Orskey S900 dash cam is probably as good as you can get.
